Paul Maurice, the coach of the Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers team did a very leadership-y thing during the last few moments of the final game against the Edmonton Oilers a few weeks ago. He asked his fourth line to close out the game as a gesture to thank them for their hard work, especially for their role helping the team
overcome a 2-0 series deficit against the Toronto Maple Leafs. (Full disclosure, as a proud Canadian I was of course rooting for Edmonton and yes, even Toronto!)
It's another reminder for all of us to be more intentional about appreciating and recognizing the often-forgotten heroes - the fourth lines in our workplaces who go unnoticed or who are out of the public eye. It
reminds me of how the world renown restaurateur Thomas Keller always thanks the dishwashers before anyone else at his restaurant openings.
So, what can you do today, and forever more, to show appreciation for the fourth lines in your life?
